Howe's dexterity in the service of Yes has carried that troop for decades, but it is the occasional glimpse one had of his accoustic adventures that augured well for Waterfall - Calibre & Zero Tolerance - Waterfall release. And it's an absolute killer. This is a tour de force by a master of his instrument who firmly believes in both melody and technique.

It is a wonderful recasting of what seemed at the time a coda for YES. Reset here, it has matured with age, or maybe I have. Deeply reflective, it is a very moving piece. Throughout this disc, you'll Matilda Mother - Pink Floyd - A Nice Pair yourself stunned by the power of his playing, the subtlety, the turns and twists in the compositions. This is extraordinary. Howe's work here will inspire you.

Your initial reaction may be to give up any hope of mastering the guitar, but as you continue to listen, this is the musical equivalent of a very long sojourn with Thich Nhat Hanh. You'll come out of the listening experience prepared to put your heart and soul into the playing. Howe will long be remembered for this wonderful record.

This is definately one of my favorite instrumental albums. The signature guitar style of Howe is all over the place, and the two Yes classics "To be over" and "Your Move" are some of the best instrumental covers I've ever heard.

Though Steve shines many times soloing, he does have accompaniment from time to time, and it's wonderful because it never takes away the beauty of Howe's playing. The rest was a little too mellow for me. For a wider sample of Howe's talent, get Spectrum, it's a definite 5-star that will take you on sonic roller coaster ride!!

Of course, regardless of the official writing credits, these were originally largely Howe-arranged pieces. All three are excellent, but it's not enough, in my opinion, to assign Natural Timbre three stars. To Yes fans, I'd strongly recommend downloading these last tracks. Otherwise, Natural Timbre is inessential/5.
